PLANS for a 24-bedroom extension to the Foxfields Hotel, Billington, were deferred by Ribble Valley Council’s Planning and Development Committee after the existing building was described as “a blot on the landscape.”

PROVING they have the “gift of the gab,” pupils from Bowland County High School and Clitheroe Royal Grammar School have been battling it out in a debating competition. Organised by the Rotary Club of Ribblesdalc, the annual com
teams from Hyndburn and Accrington, the two local schools fin ished with the honours even. In the junior section, the debate was “This house believes that
petition attracts schools throughout the Ribble Valley and sur rounding area. Competing for a place in the second round, where they meet
opposing the motion “This house believes there can be no rights without responsibilities,” won the debate. “The competition went well and the speaking was of an
