W- Ancient route

THE route reputed to be trodden by the feet of monks travelling between Whalley and Sawley abbeys between 1100 and 1500 was used again last

Sunday. Following in the footsteps of those monks from ,

long ago were 35 willing walkers taking part in an event to raise money for the Sawley Village School

Charity Fund. The 10-mile route, starting from Whalley, went

through Wiswell, Pendleton, Worston and Down- ham, and the event, which is expected to have raised more than £300, was organised by the Vil

lage Committee. Check point officials were Mr P. T. Mastcrson

and Mr M. Masterson. On their return to Sawley, the walkers were

given soup and tea.
