Fund-raising takes shape for Roefield

WHAT do you want for Roefield? That is the uestion being posed by the Ribble Valley

Iports and Recreational Association. It wants to find out how

people intend to use the facility, so they can make provision for their individ ual sports and leisure needs. Currently the asso ciation is liaising with the mountaineers, indoor bowlers and badminton players. Association chairman

Doreen Euinton said: “Wo need to know what people actually want for Roefield, so that we can incorporate their ideas in our current and future plans. If you have any s])ecial needs or ideas for the com

plex, contact the associa tion's design consultant, Denise Mallinson (Whalley 2312). Meanwhile, the appeals

committee has been busy organising and co-ordinat ing fund-raising events. The first, on February

17th, is a sponsored 12- hour table-tennis mara thon by Trinity Youth Club in the Trinity s])orts hall between G a.m. and G p.m. Anyone interested in helping sp on so r the youngsters can contact Lee Robinson (Clitheroe 25831).

Christmas spirit

survives

CLITHEROE’S Christ mas trees and lights sur vived the festive season b e t te r than usual thanks to close circuit television.

How’ever, there were

some casualties. Coun. Barrie Parker

told town councillors that on the first day the crib was up, light bulbs valued at £25 were stolen.

"Undoubtedly this was

the work of local people,” he said. “They spoil the enjoyment of Christmas for everybody else.”

Coun. Eric Bracewell

added: “That number of bulbs could not be taken without someone seeing. It is a sad reflection on society that people look the other way and don’ want to become involved.’

CLITHE RO E Young Farmers enjoyed a visit to the Stalwart Dyeing Com pany and were given a guided tour by Keith, Tre vor and Henry, who explained the process of turning various materials into finished carpet. In the works laboratory,

a scientist showed how colours and patterns are achieved by experiment ing with various dyes on small samples before they are used in the factory. Different standards

were seen being made some of them going on to be treated for stain resistance. The v is it was well
