Volunteer needs temporary home
AN Algerian law student coming to Clitheroe ne.xt month is desperately in need of some where to stay.
The 24-yoar-old student has volunteered to help
mentally handicapped chil- (iren at'Trinity Youth and Community Centre’s sjje- cial play scheme.
Youth leader Mr Geoff
Jackson advertised for volunteers to help with tlie scheme in the social work ers’ weekly magazine, “New Society.” He was amazed when replies came, not from England, but from Algeria and Spain.
Accommodation has
already been found for the Spanish applicant, a female medical student, but the Algerian law stu dent is still without a tem- ])orary home.
"He is due to arrive in
August, staying for a month,” e.xplained Mr Jackson. “We are pre pared to contribute a rea sonable sum towards his board and keep and would like someone in Clitlieroc to take him. He will be pretty committed, lielping with' the playscheme throughout tlie week and two or tliree evenings, but it would be nice if we could find someone prepared to show liim the Kibble Val iev at weekends.”
Anyone willing to help
should contact Mr Jackson at the Y'outh Centre, tele phone Clitheroe 27886.
Rescue Team needs £15,500
THE Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team has to raise £15,500 in the ne.xt six months in order to keep its base in Dunsop Bridge. The team already rents
the property at Smelt Mill from the North West Water Authority. The cot tage is now for sale along with two adjoining proper t ie s and the Water Authority has given the rescue team until 1988 to raise the £23,000 purchase price.
Information Centre plans
FOLLOWING the County Council’s decision earlier
this year to establish a network of Information (jentres, the Kibble Valley T ou r is t In fo rm o t ion Centre could become a
joint one. Detailed discussions are
taking place with a view to placing two members of County staff in the exist ing information centre at Church Walk, Clitheroe. The County considers that minor adaptations to
the existing centre will be necessary but have still to reach agi'eement with the Kibble Valley authority.
Earlier in the year
members o f the team hoped it would be possible to raise the £83,000 neces sary to buy all three prop erties with the help of a Trust. Recently the Tinist decided not to go ahead and the team is now con centrating on buying its own projjerty. Already £5,500 has been
raised and the County Council is to give a £2,000
grant, providing the necessary finance is I'aised.

The couple milk some 50
sheep and five goats and the products have proved excellent for people with allergies to cows’ milk.
The sheep — British milkers crossed with Dor- sets — have to be milked twice a day. The couple have constructed a dairy and a milking parlour on their 230-acre farm and have set up a portable milking machine, specially adapted with two teats.
Mr and Mrs Brockle

police officer stopped the pickup in Sawley Road, Chatburn, after hearing the exhaust system mak ing a loud noise.
The officer also found
that the rear lights were c o v e r e d with pap er instead of glass and this was blowing about in the wind.
When asked for an
