Progress in bid to give town a cleaner image

Housing problems ould be unloaded

IN reply to Coun. Fleming, first let me thank him for'the information he has given and then briefly deal with the information he has not

given. What services are going

to be laid on for the cara vans, such as water, light, heat and toilet facilities? We are bound to ask that question because at the Kemplc House site they could only be described as primitive.

the moment five houses are available in Clitheroe and Chatburn. but if the council is going to adopt the core system for resi dents coming from C'al- derstones and Brockhall hospitals, would it not need them for th a t purpose?

always have to bring poli tics into everything? I live in the Kibble Valley and what is happening else where is tlie concern of those living there. If, however, 1 was living in an area which was con trolled by a Labour coun cil and it was behaving in the same way as our borough council, 1 would he just as critical. Coun. Fleming asks if I am trying to be helpful or

this good news as I had for some time really wanted to contribute to

Parish Hall on the even ing of the recording I was told by one of the organis ers of the committee that they had all the contes tants they wanted. I felt very hurt by this com ment and indeed very em barrassed, as I had told friends, relatives and indeed a million Piccadilly Radio listeners that morn ing that I would be taking part. Later the same even

ing, while having a drink in the Swan and Royal Hotel, a member of the

800 Committee apologised to me for this mix up and put the blame on the Ribble Valley Council for not informing the 800 Committee of my partici pation in the recording. The BBC producer, a

gentleman I had met two years ago on Jeremy Bea dle's “Nightcap” program me, was very surprised at my absence and men tioned that if he had seen me in the hall he would have definitely used me on the recording. Obviously there was a

genuine mix-up between the 800 Committee and th e Ribble Valley

Borough Council, al though I do feel that surely, with my track record of over 20 TV and 80 radio appearances, the 800 Committee could have been a lot more consider ate in its planning of the programme. I have been proud to be

associated with Clitheroe and on my travels to vari ous radio stations all over the UK I have men- taioned the town. I per sonally feel very let down bv the 800 Committee. SIMON J. ENTWISTLE, Valentine Cottage, 13 Waddington Road, Clitheroe.

Need for photo booth

THERE seems to be a never ending need of small photographs such as those produced by auto matic machines, seen in leading large or depart mental stores in main towns, not only for their suitability for passports, etc., but probably more because of their on-the- spot availability within minutes of being taken.

Is there any possibility

Otherwise if this would

body (e.g. Chamber of Commerce) bring itself to work out ways and means for somebody, such as a photographer, to operate a machine in Clitheroe?

Could the objecting

travel to the towns rather than pay local traders a higher price, with delay. Why not get in on the act? Above all . . . a val uable local benefit could be given.
