Wrighton is appealing for more volunteers to help with the work, which takes place from 9 a.m. to noon on Mondays and from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays. Mr Wrighton said the
job of sorting through the paper was becoming in creasingly difficult as people were including plastic and other "rubb ish". which was of no use. The club raises one-
third of its £7 .0 0 0 annual running costs from the waste paper collections.

Favourable response to buses b lu ep r in t
THE blueprint for bus services in the Ribble Valiev following privatisation in October has received it favourable response from the Ribble Valley Council’s Planning and Transportation Committee.
Hut Planning and Tech
nical Officer Mr Philip Hailey added a note of caution, telling members that it was early days and they would have to wait and* see what became of the situation as services got underway. At a special meeting of
the committee, members agreed to accept in princi ple details of the new ser vices submitted by the county council, hut they reserved the right to re quest minor amendments and additions once the ef fects of the new system had been closely moni tored after the October start. Mr Michael .Jackson,
the Chief Executive, said that he had received let ters voicing concern over the loss of "Hetty’s Hus.” He said the new
operators of the rural routes would he trying to em u la te the se rv ic e "Hetty's Hus" had given. Conn. Leo Wells
(Clilheroe) said he hoped the replacement service would match up to that which had been provided hv "Hetty’s Ibis."
"1 hope the changeover
will come about smoothly and people will have no qualms about the change,” he said. Coun. Mrs Joyce Lil-
burn (Holton-hy-Howland) said she thought the prop osals very acceptable, in spite of all the apprehen sion there had been about privatisation. "It is a lot better than many people thought we would have," she said.
Fined £60
A MILLINGTON man, Alan Richard Stance! (67) nf Hillingtnn Gardens, was fined £60 by Clitberoe magistrates for driving without due care and at tention. Mr Alastair Nisbet,
prosecuting, said a motor ist was approaching the traffic lights in King Street. Whalley, when Stanccl's car emerged from between parked veh icles and hit her. Ktanccl told the court
that his view had been obsured and he had been unable tn see the oncom ing car.
Garage plan approved
MEMBERS of Clitheroe Civic Society and local re sidents objected to an ap plication to erect a canopy over the petrol filling sta tion at the roundabout on Chatburn Road.
But members of the
Ribble Valley Council's Development Sub-commit tee felt that the applica tion should go ahead and granted permission.
The application, on
behalf of BP Oil, was for the redevelopment of the garage site, incorporating the improvement of the existing office, shop and toilet facilities and canopy set "square on" to Chatburn Road, which would cover the whole forecourt area and project out to the footway.
The committee had re
eeived a .16-signature peti tion objecting to the prop osal on amenity grounds and one letter of objec tion.
Coun. Howel Jone
(C l i th e r o e ) said he thought that the applicant had done all that could be expected to make the plan acceptable.
Coun. Eric Braccwcll
(Clitheroe) added that the plan was superior to what was there at present.
