Caravanners aid research


AT an end of season party at Three Kivers Cantvan Park. West Bradford, money raised throughout the year for cancer research


was handed over. Mr and Mrs H. Cow- burn. of Three Kivers, pre­


sented Mrs Myra Clegg with £300 for the Christie Hospital and Holt Radium Institute Women's Trust Fund, of which she is treasurer. Alsu at the nartv were the Kibble Valley Mayor

TEDDIES galore abounded at NVhalloy Library on Thursday morning, with special reason — to cele­ brate the 60th anniversary of the publication of “Winnie the Pooh,” by A. A. Milne.


About 70 children of all ages packed the library to


pay homage to the honey loving bear. There was no shortage of activities to keep them


occupied for more than an hour. Prizes of stickers yvere awarded to the owners of the largest and smallest bears, there was a story about Winnie the Pooh and the children sang "Happy Birthday."


Each child received a printed picture to colour in,


hut some chose instead to design Winnie the Pooh birthday cards. There was also a competition to pin the bow tic on


a picture of a hear and a quiz rvith 111 questions. Finally the children had a well earned rest,


complete with orange drink and biscuits. NFU ladies dine out

Collision with cycle leads to £385 fines


CLITHEROE driver Mr Victor Lionel North- over (34), of Woone Lane, pleaded guilty to five motoring offences after an accident with a


pedal cyclist. Clitheroe magistrates


disqualified him from driving for two years and fined him £200 for failing to provide a breath speci­ men, £30 for driving with- out due care and atten­ tion. £75 for failing to step after an accident. £50 for failing to report an accident and £30 for fail­ ing to stop for a police officer. The court heard that


Northover had emerged from the junction of Moot- Latte and Whalley Road into tlte path of the cyc­ list. The accident was seen by a special police constable, who signalled tlte defendant to stop. Northover drove away,


leaving his car about 100 yards up tlte road, and was later arrested near


his homo. Mr David Parkinson,


defending, said his client had edged slowly out on Whalley Road, thinking that tlie cyclist intended making a turn. Following the collision,


Northover said he moved Itis ear to prevent conges­ tion, then returned to the scene. He later gave him­ self up to police waiting near his home.
