A PUBLIC speaking con test organised by the Rotary Club of Clitheroe proved something of a triumph for Clitheroe Girls’ Grammar School. For the school won the
junior section and was runner-up in the contest for senior pupils. Five Ribble Valley sec
ondary schools took part, the others being St Au gustine’s, winners of the senior section (15 to 18 years), Bowland, Ribbies- dale and Clitheroe Royal Grammar School for Boys, which was runner-up in the junior contest (11 to
14 years). Each team — made up
of a chairman, speaker and proposer of a vote of thanks — occupied the platform for a maximum of 12 minutes. For the winning St Au
