DRAINAGE TENDER

A TENDER of £16,000 from Chipping landscape and plant hire contractor William Pye has been ac cepted by the Ribble Valley Council’s Recrea tion and Leisure Commit tee for drainage work to create a sports field on land next to the car park at Roefield.

There is also £10,000

for the scheme in the 1984-85 Capital Program me and a grant of £10,000 has been given by the North West Sports Council.

Show goes on at St Ann's Court

PREMIER Harold Mac Millan’s 1950s slogan “You've never had it so good" could have applied at Clitheroe Ladies’ Cir cle’s Fifties Night at the Roman Catholic Social Centre. For in one of the

liveliest events to have been organised by the Circle, more than 150 people danced to the sounds of the great clas sics of rock ’n’ roll — Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry and Bill Haley among them—to raise more than £260 for charity. The evening was round

ed off with more modern songs thanks to the Phil Case disco. Community Services

SUDDEN illness did not stop the senior citizens of St Ann’s Court, Low Moor, and their friends from enjoying a communal singsong.

‘Energy Control’ NewHoover A group of entertainers

last-minute rearrange ments. But the show went

ahead with stand-ins and St Ann’s warden, Mrs Marjorie Hollywood, said it had been a magnificent evening for about 40 people. “The entertainers were

so good that we want them back at Christmas,” she said.

CONTRACTORS carry ing out repairs and maintenance to footway lighting in the Ribble Valley have come in for praise. At a meeting of the borough’s Parish Councils’ Liaison Committee, Coun. Eric Edmondson (Wad- dington) complimented the lighting contractors on their work. “ The standard of

maintenance has improved since they took over,” he said. “I think they are doing a really good job.” Members agreed that

since the Lancashire County Council chose con tractors David Linning- ton, of Preston, there had been a general improve ment in the service.

NO CHANCE OF LEASE

A REQUEST by a Clitheroe car., spares firm to lease land at Salthill Industrial Estate has been turned down. Members of the Ribble

Valley Council’s Planning and Transportation Com mittee heard from Plan ning and Technical Officer Mr Philip Bailey that Autoparts, of Albion Street, required a lease if it was to be able to relo cate the business. It was agreed to inform

the firm of the deferred payment scheme.

resentatives of sports and other related bodies will attend to participate in an information exchange, which could result in the publication of a booklet on recreational facilities and opportunities available for youths in the area. Those in attendance will include the chairman of the Ribble Valley Coun cil’s Recreation and Lei sure Committee, Coun. Mrs Myra Clegg, who will be in charge of the pro ceedings, education offi cials, youth officers and members of the Ribble Valley Sports Council. They are coming to

g eth er to encourage young people to play sport following an earlier meeting in the town ad dressed by Mrs Irene Hinson, of the NW Sports Council. Her invitation to the

Ribble Valley to take part in the National Sports Council’s “Ever Thought of Sport” country-wide campaign was taken up by several interested parties, who hope that a commit tee will be set up at the meeting. In order that their ef

forts aid youngsters as ef fectively as possible, a questionnaire may be cir culated among the 13-24 age group.

A LARGE number of people broke off from their shopping on Saturday morning to drop in to the Clitheroe Mayor’s Parlour for a refresh ing drink at a coffee morning organised by the town’s Mayoress, Mrs Maxine Jones. The proceeds, esti
