An exceedingly w e t August

THE Ribble Valley experienced a cool and very wet August, with temperatures never reaching

the 70s. Rain fell on every day

but two, and totalled six inches. But it certainly was not

the wettest August of recent memory. In 1971 and 1979 there

were six and a half inches and, in 1982, seven and a quarter inches. Looking on the bright

side, September 1982 had a fortnight of glorious weather!
