Collided with motor cyclist

A CAR driver who col lided with a motor cyclist at the Chatburn Road roundabout, told Clitheroe magistrates that he was using dipped headlights and did not see the machine. Marcin Bialecki (65), of

Win d s o r Av e n u e , Clitheroe, was fined £50

for driving without due care and attention. < , Bialecki said he reduced speed as he approached the roundabout and check ed other ■ traffic. - He did hot see the motor cyclist.

Lowergate. “Volunteers could be

teenagers or adults who are willing to supervise games or participate in tab le - ten n is , snooker, dominoes, jigsaws and d a n c i n g , ” said Mr Haworth. ' He added that the meetings were much ap preciated by 2 0 -mentally handicapped adults who regularly attend. Mr Haworth reported

that £3,500 had been spent during the year to keep the club going, with half that amount going on transport.

.

, During the year, funds had been boosted with a

"donation of £1,000 from Clitheroe French Connec tion, and £1,800 through a sponsored bike ride. Mr Haworth was re

elected chairman, with his wife, Jill, as secretary, and Mrs Ann Clark trea surer. The committee was

re-elected tvith an extra member, Mr Colin Mason.

WORKERS at the James Thornber Mill, Clitheroe, watched with pride as de livery was taken of four new weaving machines to complete the second phase of the firm’s reorganisa tion programme started eight years ago. The whole operation

lasted several hours and went without a hitch. Head of the firm, Mr

James Thornber, said the machines would soon be running 120 hours a week and would boost produc tion of quality fabrics. In all, the company has

24 of these machines, which are lip to three times as fast as traditional looms.

for refuse collectors

MAY we ask where else in the country could one find a more hard-working gi'oup of men than the Kibble Valley refuse collectors?

Also, they are always

very pleasant whatever the weather conditions. If other councils took a

leaf from their book there would not be the need for

Support them

HAVING lived at the same house for the past 15 years, we feel we have had ample time to ap preciate the efficiency of our refuse collectors. In all weathers and at

all times we have found the men to be more than helpful and considerate. It would seem a jp'eat pity to change a service in any way, which has proved so satisfactory. Although not being fond

of putting pen to paper, we feel strongly when asked for-support. We should give it in full measure.

people to come into the country lanes to dump their rubbish. Before any decisions

are made regarding in tended cuts on refuse col lections, one should try to . understand these men’s problems. May we suggest that

each member of the borough council advocat ing cuts and extra work loads should, in turn, come out of their central heated fortress (council offices) and work a full week with these men, at the same rate of pay. • It is the only way to

know fully what these men are going through. We the public must

back our refuse lads all the way.

repairs REGARDING the prop osed r e p a i r s to the Castle, has consideration been given to making it a real tourist attraction by reinstating the floors and putting on a roof with a viewing area? This would have the

effect of increasing tour ism and also prevent water penetrating the walls from the inside. With modern building

methods this would not be a problem. INTERESTED.

Register

LISTS of names for the next Register of Elector were available for inspec tion from yesterday at the Kibble Valley Council of fices, the council’s mobile office, any post office in the borough, or Clitheroe and Whalley libraries. Claims to be included or

for alterations much reach the Electoral Registration Officer, Mr Michael Jack son, at the council offices by December 16th.

Health and housing of

ficer. Mr Peter Gladwin told members that good progi’ess had been made until minor alterations were being done to the drainage and it was found that the main drain did not flow adequately.

It was necessary to re

place two sections of drainaj;e, including re routing. Mr Gladwin said

that it was now likely that the tender figure would be e.xceeded, but the scheme should still be within the estimated amount of £114,000.
