THERE’S a real treat in store for those people still, to. see Trinity Methodist Church’s 21st pantomime this week:

“Babes in the • Wood”

has all the ingredients of a good traditional panto and maintains a lively pace, with frequ en t changes of mood, colourful scenery and costume.

The plot centres round

Robin' Hood’s rescue of the “babes” from the clutches of the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Comedy is ably supplied

by Dame Trott (Norman Hornby) and the two rob bers (Jean Robinson and Ian Harrison). The evil Sheriff (Roland Hailwood) is eventually

overcome by Robin (Jean Avery); . whose singing adds an extra dimension to the'show’s music. Musical d ir e c to r

Dorothy Birtwell has selected catchy tunes which l in g e r in the memory, the children’s chorus is delightful, and there is much hilarity in the school scene. The “babes” (Claire

Britcliffe and Eleanor Sowerby) carry their first stage roles with great confidence and Clare Saberton (Maid Marian) has a pleasant singing voice which is pleasingly backed by the lively chorus of villagers. Other main parts are

played by Anita Kelling- ton, Andrew Hailwood, Gillian Coles, Susan Dick inson, Ian B ritc l if fe , Andrew McLaughlin, Andrew Robinson, and Mike Britcliffe. Peter Wrigley is organ

ist and the panto is pro duced by Stuart Robin son. Further perform - ances take place tonight, tomorrow and Saturday, when there is a matinee and an evening show

Action by nurses not the norm

NO disciplinary action is to be taken against eight Calderstones’ nurses who walked out of the Sand piper Restaurant, Whal ley, when they found a party of handicapped Brockhall patients were there for a meal. Director of nursing ser

vices at Calderstones, Mr Tom McLean, said he was disappointed at the nurses attitude, which did not represent the feelings of Calderstones’ staff.

But he said that as a

result of the matter, a lot of useful discussions would be taking place.

The Blackburn, Hynd-

burn and Ribble Valley Community Health Coun cil has also expressed “great concern” at the in cident and felt the nurses’ behaviour was detrimen tal to the practice of in tegrating residents from institutions back into the community.
