A PUBLIC meeting has been called to determine whether Whalley resi dents want a twin town. Whalley Parish Council

agreed to the move after Coun. Eric Ronnan, who is behind the twinning idea, said: “If there is enough support I propose to continue with it. If there is not I do not intend to waste the coun cil’s present time but let the matter lie on the table.” The meeting is being

held on June 12th at the old grammar school. Coun. Ronnan' had writ ten to three towns of com parable size to Whalley in th e Lo ire V a l ley — Ruffec, Charroux and St Aignan.

Mr and Mrs Hailwood’s home in Kirkmoor Road, Clitheroe, for a “doggy” birthday party.

“We thought things

might be a bit chaotic, said Roland. “However, all the dogs were well be haved, and the owners — all but three of whom live in the Clitheroe area — had great fun comparing notes.” Gemma’s progeny and

owners were sponsored, in all for more than £100, one pair having been pledged over £30. Some 57 dogs — of all

varieties! — enjoyed their stroll by the Ribble and there was an exceptional ly good response from young owners, one aged six.

On their return to the

Brungerley Park starting point, the dogs were re warded with a choice of

mint, savoury or choco late-flavoured biscuits, supplied by Clitheroe animal-feed manufacturers Dugdales, who sponsored the walk. The club expects the

effort to bring in a sum in the region of £500, which in due course will be dis tributed to local charities.. Our picture shows some

of the proud owners and their pets at the start of the walk.
