Concerned by litter in streets

EMPTY shops in Moor Lane and increasing litter in the streets of Clitheroe are causing concern to members of Clitheroe Civic Society. . The Society praised the

efforts of road sweepers, but described the litter as “horrible.” Members had a long

discussion on the future direction the so c ie ty

.should follow and felt that more exhibitions, such as the Camera Club show, could be mounted under the society’s auspices. It was also suggested

that the society and the sound archivist could com bine to improve refresh ment facilities. Members heard that

their chairman, Mr Bob Bennett, had had some fruitful discussions with Ribble 'Valley planning of ficer Mr Philip Bailey. The annual meeting is

at the Pendle Heritage Centre, Barrowford, on June 26th, followed by a guided tour and refresh ments.

Festivals

JEWISH festivals was the subject of a talk given by Mrs Hilda Homer to the Clitheroe Ribbles- dale Afternoon Townswo men’s Guild. The talk was a follow

up to an earlier one given by Mrs Homer, who was thanked by Mrs Mabel Hammond. There was a good at

tendance-for the meeting, which was chaired by Mrs Mary Robinson.

Clitheroe Advertiser and Times, May 17th, 1981 9

GOOD NEWS FOR AIRTOURS

Over 55,000 people have already booked on our 1984 Summer Programme. This programme is now very

nearly fully booked.

The management of Airtours thought how well they had done and how pleased their directors were going to be.

Unfortunately for the management, the managing direc tor consulted his figures for last year and found that over 25,000 people decided to book a last minute holiday with Airtours in 1983.

This meant that because we were nearly full these 25,000 people would not be able to take an Airtours holiday in 1984.
