£$000 more than just a name? With around £8,000 to spend you may

be wondering what Audi or BMW have to offer. The answer is a lot less than you think. • Neither can match the comprehensive

specification of Toyota’s new Camry 2.6 GLi. The 2.0 GLi features power steering,

front wheel drive and five speed gearbox. But unlike the competition, standard equipment includes central locking, electric windows, electric sunroof and alloy wheels - plus a stereo radio/cassette. The Camry’s fuel-injected engine takes

you rapidly from standstill to a top speed of 116 mph. All for just £7,795. The 2.0 GLi tops a range of 3 superb

Camry models - which includes the 1.8 GL and the powerful Turbo Diesel. The Camry 2.0 GLi - evidence that £8,00(5 can buy you more than just a name.

Yellow lines plea to reduce hazard

. ..................

SOMEONE is going to be killed unless yellow lines are painted .along a stretch of Whalley Road in Sabden, residents . claimed at the annual meeting of the parish council.

Householders .in Whal

ley Road say parked cars along a stretch of the road are a hazard,. creating a blind junction, and a fatal accident will occur unless something is done. One resident told the

meeting he had narrowly escaped a serious accident the previous day. There have been a number of minor accidents and resi dents fear there will be a more serious one unless yellow lines are continued

along the stretch near the Pendle Witch Hotel. They asked the guest

speaker at the meeting, Mr. Ian Robertson, area surveyor with the County Council’s Highways De partment based at Whal ley, if something could be done. He said the matter had

arisen before and it had been decided that more yellow lines in Whalley Road were not necessary, but he agreed to look into it again. Other matters brought

up by r e s id en ts and parish councillors included the cleaning and replacing of road signs, repair of the bridge' at Heyhouses,' s t r e e t c le a n in g and potholes in the road.- Mr Robertson said if he

was given , further details of all the matters they would be investigated. He described the work

of his department, whose main function is the maintenance of the roads to a reasonable standard. At the meeting, at
