THE village green at Bolton-by-Bowland was the venue for the annual sports for children of members of the Clitheroe and District NFU Ladies’ Section. On a warm, sunny day, many parents and friends turned out to cheer on the competitors.

A PLAN to change the use of commercial pre mises at Sawley Garage to a house has been ap proved by the Ribble. Valley Council’s Develop ment Sub-Committee. In a report to the com

mittee, Planning and Technical Officer Mr Philip Bailey stated that part of the site was al ready used for residential purposes and such a con version would be accept able. Mr Bailey told members

that permission had al ready been granted for conversion to a craft shop. The consent was linked with the development of the adjoining land for seven houses. Under the terms of the

agreement, said Mr Bailey, if the garage site was used for any other purposes than a craft shop then there would be no planning consent for the houses. An application had been

made for ‘the agreement to be amended to allow conversion to a house and for the seven dwellings to be built and the commit tee agreed to negotiations taking place on the matter.

Council urged to buy British

A COUNCILLOR’S plea to buy British has been heeded by fellow members.

The request came at a about this in councils too

meeting of Ribble Valley Council’s Finance and General Purposes Sub- Committee which was being urged to replace a

.photo copying machine in the Planning Department with a Japanese model

Then Coun. Geoffrey

Ainsworth (Clayton-le- Dale) spoke up: “I think we should go out of our way to buy British and save British jobs. We talk

often without doing any thing practical about it. This is our chance to do something,” he said. Mr Brian Manning,-

deputy town clerk, said the Japanese model, cost ing £3,950, was being re commended simply be cause of the 150 models on the market it was the best for the job. It was agreed to find out how much a British-

made model would cost. V

IF YOU want a great night out, then follow the example o f mem be r s o f Bowia n d Forest YFC by hold ing a coffee evening instead o f a meeting. The usual agenda

was replaced with a series o f games rang ing from croquet to darts. There were also guessing games and a treasure hunt which was won by Mr Les Collinson. Raffle winners were

Mrs Una Walker, Miss Linda Pinder and Mr E. Sandham. A total o f £74 was raised for club funds.
