A WOMAN who lived all her life in the Clitheroe area, Mrs Elizabeth Jane Taylor, has died in hospi
tal, aged 79. She had suffered vari
ous illnesses over the past
six years and more re cently was a regular vis itor to the day care unit at Clitheroe Hospital. Mrs Taylor, of Beverley
Drive, was born at Chat- burn Road End and also lived in George Street before her marriage. She lived for a spell in
Dunsop Bridge and later in Woone Lane before moving to B ev e rley Drive. In her younger days
she worked as a winder at the former Castle Doubl ing company in Clitheroe The funeral will be on
Tuesday at St James’s Church, Clitheroe, fol lowed by interment at Whalley and Wiswell cemetery. Mrs Taylor is survived
by two sons and : daughter.

No shot-gun certificate
A LANGHO man who picked up his father’s shot-gun on the spur of the moment, because dogs were worrying sheep, was fined £50 with £5 costs at Clitheroe Magistrates’ Cour t fo r having a firearm without a shot gun certificate. David James Ashcroft,
of Northcote Road, Old Langho, told the court that when some dogs were worrying sheep he joined other farmers with
guns. He had obtained a form
to apply for a certificate some time ago and thought he had sent it off.

more cash
THE Ribble Valley Coun cil has applied for extra capital grants following the Government’s decision to release more cash for local authority spending. Borough Treasurer, Mr
Gordon Onslow explained: “There is no actual extra cash, only an extra alloca tion to borrow. The only problem with having an allocation to borrow is in cu r r in g e x tra loan charges. This would push us
above existing Govern ment spending limits, so we have applied for sepa rate grants.” If the application is ap
proved, he is hoping the cash will be used for dere lict land schemes, but could not be specific about which areas would benefit.
No insurance A BILLINGTON motor-
. 1st who used a car without insurance was fined £45 at Clitheroe and given five
penalty points. Frederick David Far-
rant (42), of Pasturelands Drive, admitted the off ence. He also admitted not having a test certifi cate and a road tax li cence and was fined £10 in each case. He was found guilty
in his absence of using a . car with dangerous parts and was fined £10. Farrant was ordered to
pay £38.32 back duty and £5 costs.
Faulty tyre
FOR using a minibus with a defective tyre Winifred Hargreaves (56), of Whal ley Road, Clitheroe, was fined £80 by the town’s magistrates. For using the vehicle
with dangerous parts she was fined £75 and given three penalty points. She was ordered to pay £5

Rackets stolen
THIEVES who broke into a Ford Capri in the Whal-
