WHEELCHAIR-BOUND Whalley man Ken Dunn relaxed with a well-de served pint after complet ing a 10-mile sponsored push to raise funds for the Ribble Valley Disabled Action Group. Ken (42), of Bridge Ter

race, pushed himself in his chair all the way from Whalley to the Chatburn Road roundabout in Clitheroe and back, in

just over two hours. He was started off by

Coun. Jimmy Fell, under

the watchful eye of Ribble Valley Mayor, Coun. Mrs Myra Clegg. In C l ith e ro e , the

Mayor, Coun. John Cow- gill, signed Ken’s form and at the end of his jour ney the Rev. Graham Vic kers, Methodist minister for Whalley, signed the completed slip. Ken, a former student

nurse at Calderstones, hopes to have raised about £300 for the action group, of which he is a founder member. The money will be used

Tessy wins

A HEELER bitch, Fenis- cowles Princess Tessy, owned by Clitheroe breeder Mrs Patricia Taylor, won the Lanca shire class for heelers at Blackpool Dog Show. Mrs Taylor, of Mytton

View, has been at the forefront of a campaign to have the breed recognised by the Kennel Club and the Blackpool show is the first major one with a sec tion for heelers. The breed dates from at

least 1780 when heelers were used for rat-catch ing. They are a cross breed of tender, corgi and dachshund. In recent years interest

in them waned with dis putes over whether to class them as pedigrees or mongrels.
