CLITHEROE’S Trinity Youth Group was the centre of attention when Prince Charles called at the Douglas House recreation centre during his tour of Calderstones. Here he admires one of assistant youth leader Val Weston’s badges as leader Geoff Jackson looks on.

PLANS to celebrate the Royal wedding with a torchlight procession through the streets of Clitheroe are being drawn, up. The date has been set for Saturday* Sep

tember 5th, because the’ actual wedding day, July 29th, falls in the middle of Clitheroe holidays and the night would be too light. The evening will also include a firework

display and a variety of sideshows on the Castle Field. The town council is determined to make it the biggest celebration of its kind held in Clitheroe in recent years. Full details on page 6.

through the crossing at E shton Terrace on its way from Preston to Hel-

contrast to the return journey. Hundreds of spectators were waiting to cheer as the Royal train and its four coaches drew into the station at eight minutes past 10 — two minutes early. The cheering continued

as the smiling, grey- suited Prince left the second-last coach to be met by the Lord Lieuten ant of Lancashire, Mr Simon Towneley. Waiting to be presented

to the Prince was a line up of civic dignitaries, in cluding Ribble Valley Mayor Coun. John Walm- sley and Mrs Walmsley, the Ribble Valley Coun cil’s Chief Executive, Mr Michael Jackson and Mrs Jackson, Clitheroe Divi sion MP Mr David Wad- dington and his wife, and Clitheroe Town Mayor Coun. AMONG the gifts presented to Prince Charles during his short stay in the Ribble Valley was a pencil sketch of his fiancee Lady Diana Spencer, drawn by Clitheroe student Graham Patten. Graham’s family and friends were so

pleased 'with the sketch that they persuaded him it ivas good enough to frame and prese?it to the Prince.

Coun. Bob Ainsworth, the sketch was given to the Prince during his visit. •
