the town about two hours before the Prince was due. But the area around the
station was the chief ral lying point. People were shoulder to shoulder out side the narrow exit from the platform, among them several disabled people in wheelchairs.

tember 5th, because the’ actual wedding day, July 29th, falls in the middle of Clitheroe holidays and the night would be too light. The evening will also include a firework
display and a variety of sideshows on the Castle Field. The town council is determined to make it the biggest celebration of its kind held in Clitheroe in recent years. Full details on page 6.

contrast to the return journey. Hundreds of spectators were waiting to cheer as the Royal train and its four coaches drew into the station at eight minutes past 10 — two minutes early. The cheering continued
as the smiling, grey- suited Prince left the second-last coach to be met by the Lord Lieuten ant of Lancashire, Mr Simon Towneley. Waiting to be presented
to the Prince was a line up of civic dignitaries, in cluding Ribble Valley Mayor Coun. John Walm- sley and Mrs Walmsley, the Ribble Valley Coun cil’s Chief Executive, Mr Michael Jackson and Mrs Jackson, Clitheroe Divi sion MP Mr David Wad- dington and his wife, and Clitheroe Town Mayor Coun.

AMONG the gifts presented to Prince Charles during his short stay in the Ribble Valley was a pencil sketch of his fiancee Lady Diana Spencer, drawn by Clitheroe student Graham Patten. Graham’s family and friends were so
pleased 'with the sketch that they persuaded him it ivas good enough to frame and prese?it to the Prince.
Coun. Bob Ainsworth, the sketch was given to the Prince during his visit. •
So with the help of the Mayor of Clitheroe,
the crowd watching the Prince airive at the station. “But I asked the Mayor to hand it over for me as he was meeting the Prince,” said Graham.
Graham (18), of Shirebum Avenue, was in

levels at Clitheroe Royal Grammar School this week, enjoys art as a hobby and drew the sketch when the Royal couple announced their engagement earlier in the year.
