CLITHEROE Garden Club’s first coffee evening for a couple of years was well supported by both members and the general public- and raised more than £100.

AFTER 27 years of battling through all weath-. ers, up hill and down dale, postman Mr Bill ] Wallwork has hung up his mail bag for the last

bury. The money will help the -

club continue its policy of inviting expert gardeners to speak -at the monthly meeting in Ribblesdale

School. On Saturdayt the club

joins forces with Clitheroe Flower Club at its popu lar annual show in the lower Parish Hall. The Flower Club’s show

is always competitive and widely known for the beauty of the floral dis

plays. Mr Wallwork

his wife, who retired as a shop assistant from Ke nyon’s in Clitheroe two years ago, plan to pursue,

their hobby. They are also keen stargazers. In addition he is an ad

mirer of organ music and attends recitals. His love of gardening

was mirrored in the gifts from his colleagues at the Post Office, who pre sented him with a lawn mower. The office gave him a

Black and Decker Work- master and he received a letter from the Director of Post to mark his retire ment. Mr Wallwork and his

wife will also be kept busy in future months when they move to River side, Low Moor.

Knock-out is winner

For the first time the ,

Garden Club show is being run on a competi tive basis, with 24 classes for flowers and produce. R ib b le V a l ley parks superintendent Mr Roger Hirst will be the judge. On this occasion, en .

tries are restricted to club members and Clitheroe residents only, but it is already clear that- the show may have to, be ex tended to a wider area.
