DATSUN DO IT ..

AGAIN!

For the second year running, Datsun made a tremendous clean sweep of the major awards In the East African Safari Rally. The rally, recognised as by far the toughest event reautarlv

Mrs Caroline Simpson

held anywhere in thcrworld, was won by Shekhar Mehta in a 160J Violet. Other Violets came second, fourth, eighth and twelfth.

This outstanding performance gave Datsun not only the overall victory, but also the class victory and the team prize, giving the factory this “Triple Crown” for the second year running. It is the fifth time Datsun has won the safari Rally.

The Triple Crown for two successive years . . . there could hardly be a more convincina demonstration of the toughness and reliability of our cars than this!

All Datsuns are built to the same high standards as oar rally-winning Violets, and we have the full range in our showrooms for immediate delivery.

Caroline answers rally call

A HAIR-RAISING, high speed journey around the forest tracks of Wales is the daunting test facing' West Bradford rally en th u s ia s t Mrs Caroline Simpson.

It is only a matter of

months since C a ro lin e (28), of Westfield Drive, took over as co-driver to Slaidburn rally ace John Thompson, but the Welsh adventure will mean com peting against top-class c r ews f rom all over Europe in the Atcost 80 International Rally.

Caroline has been in

te re s te d in driving for some time and her hus band Alan (27), helps to service John's cars. So when John found himself without a navigator it was suggested that Caroline have a try.

During the forest runs,

Caroline will be concen trating on her navigation duties, but she will have the chance to take the wheel on some of the road sections.

“I had to study all the

driving manuals to make sure exactly what the job entailed," she said. “But I am really enjoying it and so fa r ev ery th in g has gone well."

Stages rally. However, th e re is a

cloud on the horizon — unless sponsors come for ward to back them, the Welsh rally could be their last. “We tire paying for this

from our own pockets, but if we don’t land outside financial backing it could b e t h e e n d , ’ ’ s a i d Caroline.
