WHEN a self-employed haulage c o n t r a c to r , Thomas Edward Swift (46), of Kemple View, Clitheroe, drove a trailer 500 yards from Chester Avenue car park to his gar age in North Street, he was stopped by police. This led to his appear

guilty, told the court he had bought the trailer only on the Monday evening before he was stopped at daybreak on Wednesday morning. He knew the ty r e s

MR BURNABY DRAYSON Formerly MP for Skipton Constituency
Mr Drayson, having given loyal and continuous service to the Electorate of Skipton Constituency for 34 years has now retired from the House of Commons.
The Skipton Conservative Association is to recog nise this magnificent achievement, but we believe that many of Mr Drayson's friends who may not be directly connected with the Association would like to contribute to a presentation to be made to him in the early Autumn.
Anyone wishing to donate to this presentation should send their contribution to me at 19 Otley Street, Skipton. All contributions, no matter how small or large, will be acknowledged.

TIME is running out for Waddington Youth Club. Last month’s call for vol
unteers to form a new management committee to help run the club has appa rently fallen on deaf ears. Unless the situation
alters, the club will lose its paid youth leader and have to close in September. Retiring management
committee chairman Mrs Marie Brown is very disap pointed. “It seems the apathy of the village to its youth club is overwhelm ing,” she said. “I thought the parents of
children who attend would have rallied round,” she said. “It will probably hit them in September when the club does not re-open after the summer break.” Mrs Brown has appealed
for help on numerous occa sions, but thinks she may be fighting a losing battle. However, if anyone feels they can come to the youth club’s aid they should con tact her (Tel. 23366).
Blooming good show
THE day after being invol ved in a car accident, Gareth of Accrington attended Clitheroe Flower Club and gave an excellent demonstration using vari ous blooms. An arrangement of blue
flowers in a blue china urn was admired. It was fol lowed by a striking display of three scarlet anti rrhinums against bleached
cane. M r s N . H o l m e s

“WATERSHIP DOWN” makes a welcome return to Clitheroe Civic Hall next week. The film, first shown there in February, is based on the novel by Richard Adams. It features the recent

On the air
CLITHEROE Garden Club will be featured on local radio on Sunday afternoon. The club’s June meeting was recorded by Radio Blackburn, ques tions being answered by a panel comprising Glyn Edwards (Copster Green), Fred Downham (Lancas ter) and Norman Thomp son (Blackburn Parks superintendent). The prog ramme will be repeated next Thursday evening, which is just as well, as many club members will be spending the Sunday after noon at Harlow Car gar dens (Harrogate).
