THE housewife’s peren nial complaint is that she is “tied to the kitchen sink.” But a v i s i t
t o o n e of
Clitheroe’s most attrac tive shops would soon alter that. For at Wade DA in
the Swan and Royal courtyard there is a range of fabulous kitch ens to which any house wife would gladly be “tied.” The firm has marked
its first anniversary in the town by branching out into the sale of top quality kitchens. Proprietor Mr Freddie Wade feels this is the ideal

produce a mind boggling range of designs and colour schemes which can cater for every ta s te , whim and fancy. Mr Wade chose the two

A LINK WITH THE DAYS OF COACHING
WADE DA’s shop is one of the most attractive units to be found anywhere. It is set in a corner of the Swan courtyard shopping
centre, where the best of modern design blends perfectly with picturesque old fashioned surroundings. A shop in the courtyard has many advantages and Mr
Wade considers the site ideal for his go-ahead business. “It’s an attractive shopping area with a pleasant atmos

tyard was a terminus for the coach service that ran between the Swan and Royal and the Old Bull, at Blackburn. The Swan itself was a staging post where travellers
would stop for a meali or overnight, as they waited for coaches to take them on to Skipton, Preston, Manchester or back to Blackburn.
however, sounded the death knell for coach and passenger services. The old stables in the Swan courtyard were used as garages for many years — until the present attractive development. The days of the coach and horses are now long gone, but
