Two-goal Walton shines
Jack’s Motors 1, Station Hotel 5..
OPENING exchanges were fairly even, with both sides scoring a goal within a short time. Station, who had been first to find the net, gained'control and forged ahead to build up a three-goal advantage. Walton, who was enjoying one of his better games, scored two goals. In one of their rare breakaways, Jack’s Motors put in a ter rific shot only to see Bates produce a superb save. Play became scrappy in
the second half but Station still managed to score another goal. Parkington was their man of the match. Scorers were Wal ton (2), Gorman, Thomas,
Hillary. Station Hotel: Bates, Wood-
worth, 'Parkington, Phillip, Gor man, Smith, Thomas, Watson,

Trinity Res. 2, Chatburn made hard
work of defeating depleted opponents, but Bramwell had scored twice before
half-time. In the second-half Hol
den, the Hurst Green ’keeper, made some fine saves from Bramwell, and Bailey pulled a goal back. Speak made the score 3-1, and then Bramwell got his hat-trick. Elton scored a second
goal for Hurst Green, but Chatburn’s superiority enabled Holgate to run half the length of the field for a goal and Speak also scored again. CHATBURN Res.:. Wignall,

Sabden 1, Chatburn 7
A MUCH-WEAKENED Sabden side struggled
from the kick-off against their powerful opponents from Chatburn. Within eight minutes the
visitors had scored twice. They dominated the mid- field and put the home defence under continuous pressure. They scored four more goals before half
time. After half-time Smith-
son went off to give the Chatburn substitute a run, and Croft and McGurk left
'the field injured. Sabden attached strongly and Mar tin scored. The Chatburn scorers were: Croft (2), Smithson, King, Har greaves (2) and Young. The Chatburn chairman, .

there was nothing to choose between the two sides for an hour. After the break, however, Conti (S.) broke the deadlock and paved the way for a goal fe a s t in the la s t 20 minutes. Indeed, after two quick goals from Conti (S.) and

SIX GOALS FOR SIMON
Blackburn West 2, Waddington 8
SIX goals from Simon Whiteside helped Wad- dington notch their biggest victory in the Black
burn Combination, Premier Division, for ten years when 13 were scored against Oswaldtwis-
tlfe Immanuel. Simon brought his total
to 12 in five games and his reputation as the villagers’ best No. 9 in their long and proud history is fa s t becoming fact. But he will be first to admit that his partner Roger Walker con tributes much to the sud den goal surge.
. Although Roger did not
score on Saturday he had a part in most of the goals and the Whiteside-Walker partnership show promise o f sw am p in g o th e r defences in addition to West’s poor side. Graham, the o ld e r Walker brother, helped
. himself to-his first league goal of the season in only his second game after injury, and there-were signs of a return of the old
magic. Player-manager John
Kirk left himself out of the side and the only question that must puzzle him is how the home side man-

ERIC GELDARD was quickly among the goals, his first coming from Dave Reddin’s centre. His effort gave Waddington confi dence and Ge l d a r d increased their lead, but with the home defence napping, Haslingden hit back through centre for ward Dickinson. Waddington countered
with another goal, again from Geldard, to give him his first hat-trick for the villagers. Paul Byrom added a fourth for a com fortable half-time lead.
Waddington resumed in
a somewhat complacent manner and it took another Dickinson goal to brighten their ideas. Geldard com pleted a fine personal per formance with another hat-trick, and Phi l ip Bishop scored with, a scorching 30-yard shot for an 8-2 .'scoreline.
This win must go down
as the reserves’ finest per formance, with excellent showings from John Seedle and Nigel Spencer.
In the Waddington line-
- up were Keith Boden after a six-year absence from
. the team, and Peter Pear son, who made his debut as substitute.
