Ifs a Qracker of a season for young Ronald
i I “ V fe4r;-v.<>i
y o u n g Chatburn rider Ronald Jackson and ms chestnut pony Twyford Cracker- have been mvmg their opponents a rough nde
this season. . ■ , For Ronald (12) has won
his class in all seven woiwng hunter events in which he has competed up and down
the country. In five of them he has won , ,
the championship — the award made to the best pony and nder in all classes. Ronald readily admits
that much of his success is really due to the efforts ot
1 0 - y e a r - o l d Tw y f o r d Cracker who, though only 12.2 hh, has been winning top prizes in Britain for many years. With the family from the
age of two, T.wyford is stabled with eight other horses kept by the Jacksons at “The Royds,” their attrac tive home set'in beautiful grounds in Chatbum. Undoubtedly, however,
this has been the pony’s best year. Of his seven wins, the
most highly prized came a couple of months ago at the
prestigious Royal Highland Show — Scotland’s equiva lent of Wembley.
The large silver champion
ship trophy he won there, takes pnde of place among the big show of silverware and rosettes in the breakfast room of the family’s hornet
Among the trophies are
several won by Ronald’s sisters, Joanna (7), Hazel (16), Shirley (17) and Pamela
(20). The only members of the
^ family who do not compete are dad and mum — Mr
Ronald Jackson, who owns a garage in Blackburn, and his .
wife Marion. Young Ronald,^ who has been riding since he was
. th r e e , is now looking forward to the Scottish
Horse Show Championship in Edinburgh on August
25th.
Said Ronald, a pupu at Riversmead: “Cracker is a
, . . .
really smashing horse to nde and we are hoping to keep up our winning form.
_ “But this championship is
the biggest so far, _ so it’s going to be v e ^ difficult.
