trophy disappeared last week when they were knocked out of the Bridge Shield in the

ble over Atherton Collieries on Saturday bu t somehow the game never seemed to get'off' the ground. The visitors' defence gave

away enough chances in the opening 10 minutes for Clitheroe to have sewn up the game, but like so often this season, they failed to convert these into goals. With virtually their only

chance in the game, Atherton took the lead in the 14th minute through , Fleckston, who scored from a penalty after he had been brought down by keeper John Onyon. With a goal behind them,

player, who had only been on ta rg e t twice this season,

The club has been sorry to

Ribblesdale'Wanderers go

into the new season in good heart. With a number of new players available competition for places, particularly in the second eleven, is going to be keen. Under new skipper Bill Workman the seconds opened th e i r programme with a resounding 10-wicket win over Oswaldtwistle on Satur day. Good teamwork from a bowling and fielding point of view saw Oswaldtwistle out for 70. Brian Scott (54) and Alan Parker (18), Wanderers’ secretary, knocked off the runs. I t will seem strange a t first

not to see Bill Slinger as profeasional with the Church Meadow seniors but there will bo a warm welcome for his successor, Raymond Jones,

latterly with Gargrave in the Airedale and Wharfedale League. He is a quick right arm bowler and a left hand bat. John Ainsworth will lead a

side which Wanderers feel should have a good chance of the championship. During the close season, members have worked hard to refurnish the pavilion and tea room. A new sight-screen has also been

built.
