TWO close finishes were the features of a double bill of cricket at Chatburn Road where Clitheroe collected five out of a possible eight points. Skipper Ken Barnes was a key figure in both. His two wickets with successive deliveries put paid to Baxenden, who needed six to win with three wickets standing; and against Padiham, on Sunday, lie took six for 48 and afterwards, with Gordon Dixon, held the visitors at bay to salvage a point in a hopeless position.

IN Sunday’s game with Baxenden, th© Whalley bat ting was much more fluent, with Smith (38) again pro minent but this time backed up by mid-order strength supplied by Rutter (28), Anderson (28) and an un beaten 14 from K. stage CliUioroe blundered badly by failing to run out Cronshaw with both he and Ashworth at one end. A wild return resulted in the ball missing the wicket and streaking towards the boun dary past three men. Cronshaw, who had scored
