The Yearly Job Week started in 1949 as a method of raising- funds for the Scout Movement. In addition to the large amount of money needed to run the Scout Movement locally, Scouts are obliged to send 60p per head to headquarters to support the central organisation, national camp sites and activity centres. And every member, from the youngest Cub to the oldest Commissioner is covered by insurance. Rather than seek charity, the Cub Scouts, Scouts and Venture Scouts wish to earn money necessary for new facilities and equipment. During Scout Job Week, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Venture Scouts go round looking for jobs to do and money to earn. For the remainder of the year they are expected to do their daily good turn without thought of any reward. They will be round your way, too, so find some odd jobs for them — Groups taking part are from the following : Grammar School (Ted Carter), Ribblesdale (Alban Snape), St Michael and St John’s (Theo Wilson), St Mary Magdalene (Gareth Daniel). Cut out the heading from the announcement and display it in your window. All the boys wear uniform, Scout or Cub Scout badge in their buttonholes and carry a job card for you to sign. Look up those things you have been meaning to have done. Now is the time to finish them.
