SINCE their openinp 40 years ago, the premises of Ribhlcsdalc School and Adult Centre have more than doubled in size, as this week's aerial picture shoics. The darker IV shape of the original buildings has
now been augmented by a cluster of ncto concrete structures, much lighter coloured in the photograph. The single-storey area that adjoins the old part now houses the art department, while the large, wivdowless building beside it is the smart new sports hall. Opposite the sports hall is a house block—the hcad-
guarlers of Hodder and Kemple houses. The structure adjoining the top end. of the tennis courts has been built to accommodate extra pupils through the raising
of the school leaving age, and is known as the RSLA block. Between this block and Turner Street a car park has been built since this picture was taken, to cope
with all vehicles visiting the school and adult centre. One other change has taken place, loo. since the picture was taken. The gardens in the quadrangles between the original building have been excavated, and are now being landscaped. Higlifield Road runs across the bottom, of our
picture, and the nearest school building Lo there is the laboratory block— also- a new addition—where ■physics, chemistry and biology lessons take place. The small, dark-roofed building lo the right of the labs is the project room. This portable building was originally sited where the new house block now stands. Also easily distinguishable is Ribblcsdalc Nursery
School (bottom right) and Castlcjord Old People’s Home just above that. At the top of the picture is SI James’s Church, with Church Meadows to its left. Part of Whalley Road is just visible on the jar right, while

GRINDLETON and Com mercial's rehearsal for Saturday's Aitken Shield match was played on a 'muddy pitch which made difficulties for both sides, but Grindleton made the best of the conditions to win 3-1. C.'.mmercial opened the
scoring through Ireland with a shot which Dewhurst should have saved. Apart from this. Dewhurst played one of his best games for Grindleton, who began to
find their rhythm. Slior- rocks scon levelled the scores.
The second half brought
some good football from both sides, but Grindleton t efforts paid oft when Taylor broke clear and gave Loynd no chance with an excellent shot.
Commercial tried hard to
pull one back, but could not break through a solid defence. Grindleton made sure cf both points when Parkinson made it 3—1 with another well-taken goal.
