goes up to £1,500

THE Young People’s Recrea

tion Committee which master minded the highly successful Castle 71 musical event were this week complimented on their abilities.

by the town council’s recrea tion committee when they re ceived the final report, which was described as “excellent.” To show their faith and to encourage the. young people, the committee agreed to a re quest for an increased budget of £1,500 compared to this year’s £1,000. Chairman Coun. James

The compliments were paid

Barnes said that in all the cir cumstances the request was not unreasonable, and Aid. Tom Robinson agreed although pointing out that it should be made clear to the young people that any profit they made was not necessarily at their dis posal.

Weekend will be a wordy one

THE club run on Sunday took us out to the coast, and as we climbed up towards Hurst Green the low lying mist be gan to clear and we could see the beginnings of a warm day. By the time we reached Longridge our extra, jerseys were making us overwarm, so we were glad to be able to stop for elevenses.

As we restarted our jour

ney we seemed to be a little behind time, but our leaders set a quite spanking pace so that Garstang was soon behind us and once we were across the main road and into the lanes with first Forton and then Cockerham passing beneath our wheels, we were soon able to see the new large, buildings now

with our old friends at the tea van, we made an inspection of the harbour, or at least that part of it still open to the public. We then started out for home in order to get well on the way before dark. We were held up quite some time when a clash of whels resulted in one member shedding seven, spokesfrom his front wheel. The major wheel building operation which fell on the leader was solved by pinch ing spokes from various wheels and we managed to get the wheels into something like shape, and in fact they gave no more trouble at all.
