TWENTY-FIVE members of the newly-formed branch of the Young Conservatives at Padi ham attended the first annual dinner at the Duke of York Hotel, Grindleton, on Monday. The branch is the first to be
re-formed in the “Action ’67” recruitment campaign, Mr. W„ A. Butler, Divisional

becoming a desperate form of activity and the public must be protected against diem. This comment was made' by Mr. Justice Ashworth at Lancaster Assizes last
night week when he dealt with three men—two from London and one from Bolton— who were alleged to have been involved in a bank snatch from a 20-year-old bank em ployee ai Clitheroe.
Anthony James Hoare (28) fitter and welder, formerly of
Hornsey, London, now of no settled address, who was found guilty of conspiring to rob and of robbery with violence, was jailed for six years. . Ronald Shuker (29), steel erector, stated to be a native
of Bolton, of no settled address, was also jailed for six years. He had pleaded guilty to robbery with violence, taking a car
without authority, and stealing property from the car. Keith Charles Bacchus (28), merchant seaman, stated
to be a native of Luton, of no fixed address, was jailed for three years after he was found guilty o f conspiring to rob and o f robbery with violence.

celebrate 21st birthday
BOLTON - BY - BOWLAND Women’s Institute’s ' annual birthday party, held at the Coach arid Horses Hotel last night week, was of sepcial sig nificance, for it marked the Institute’s 21st year. Past presidents had been in
vited to the party, and those who attended were Mrs. C. Wil son, the founder president, Mrs, W. Heaton and Mrs. J. Carman.
Another' former president, Mrs. J. Dinsdale, was unable to attend owing to illness. Mrs. L. Bosonnet, the presi
dent, welcomed the gathering, with a special word of welcome for the ex-presidents. She then
commented on all the events and efforts during the past 12 months which, she saad had made it a very successful 21st year. She expressed thanks _to
the retiring secretary, Mrs. Howard, and assistant secret ary, Mrs. H. Metcalfe, and the retiring treasurer, Mrs. Holmes.
Mrs. Bosonnet also thanked
Mrs. M. Heaton who had decor ated all the tables with coloured candles and had .hung decora tions around the room for the occasion. She read a greetings telegram from Mrs. J. Dakin, of Clltheroe, and a letter from Mrs. Dinsdale, whom, she said the members were delighted to make an- honorary member in recognition of her loyal and unbroken service throughout the 21 years, as a member of the committee.
