WHAT BRITAIN SHOULD DO.

MR. J. p. DAVIES AT SKIPTON. “ We have got to make it perfectly plain

that we are prepared to make our Empire a place in which all the nations of the world can have free access. If we do that we shall have tho possibility of real peace and real disarmament.” This view was expressed by Mr. J. 1.

Killed by Train.

HELLIFIELD STATION ACCIDENT. ” Misadventure ” was the verdict at an

inquest at Hellifield on Tuesday on a railway fireman, Osbcrt Henderson (44), married man, 101, Clayton-strect, Clayton, Manchester, who was killed, by a train at Hellifield Station on Saturday night. William Henry Lindsay, Holly Bank,

Davies, tho Darweu manufacturer, and prospective Socialist candidate^ for the Skipton Division, speaking at Skipton on

,"Wednesday night. Mr. Davies said be welcomed whole-heartedly Sir Samuei Hoaro’s speech io the League, hut his own views about sanctions were identical with those of Mr. Lansbury. Ho believed economic sanctions against Italy would he quite effective, without recourse to arms. Jf they were to obtain peace they would

liave to make big concessions to other countries from llicir Empire. They would never get peace so long as nations felt lint they were being prevented full access to raw

materials and foodstuffs. Dr. Addison. Minister of Agriculture in the last Socialist Government, also spoke.

CHOICE OF VICAR. BISHOP’S COMMENT AT

READ VICAR’S INDUCTION. The Rev. Fredk. Win. Thos. Crnske, who

has just vacated the incumbency of Head, was on Wednesday night instituted to the living of Si. John’s Church, Blackburn, by the Bishop (Dr. P. M. Herbert), the in duction ceremony being performed by Canon F. P. Nash, the former vicar, on behalf of the Archdeacon (Dr. Rawstorne). In his address Dr. Herbert said he was

aware of the feeling of soreness and even bitterness felt by many people of St. John’s during the past months because they thought they had not had tho share they felt they had the right to in the appoint ment of their new vicar. He knew that those feelings arose through their love of St. John's and their interest in its welfare, but it would be utterly wrong to allow sucli feelings to continue. The appointment had (been made and tho new incumbent had been instituted.

It was tho future that

mattered. They must forget the things that were behind and reach forth for the things .that were to come.
