t h e CL ITHERCE ADV ERTISER, S e p tem b o r 7th, 1906. Special Prize given by Messrs. Spiller

AND INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY. I'lie annual show in connection with this

Society was held in the Friend’s School and grounds, oil Saturday. The -weather bein^ fine there was a large turn out of visitors. When compared with former shows we are glad to note the decided improvement in horticulture. Tliere tvas a grand display of vegetables, cut and pot flowers, and in many of the classes the competition was close and keen. This was specially so in the -case of cut flowers and window' plants. Even in the children’s section there was i great improvement in the selection and arrangement of the bouquets of wild flow ers.

In the dairy and produce section

there was keen competition and a grand display, so also in the Industrial and Child ren’s sections. In dogs there was a falling off there being but a few entries. The poultry section was scarcely equal in num bers to former years, but the quality was up to that of any former exhibition, l l ie Slaidburn Brass Band was on the ground and great interest was taken in their per formance. Every year shows an advance in their musical abilities and they deserve all praise. The refreshment tent was under the direction of Mrs. Peel, who, with her assistants, gave great satisfaction. The Judge.' were—Horticulture; Messrs. Jones, Waddow Hall, and Leeming, Lytliam. Dogs: Mr. Read, Clitlieroe. Poultry: Mr. Nelson King, Clitheroe. Dairy Pro duce, Mrs. tValker, Slaidburn.
