AROUND THE COUNTIES CHARIT Y NEWS APRIL 2026
HEREFORD COMMUNITY FOUNDATON RAISING AWARENESS WHILE SUPPORTNG GEORGE'S FUND
As the longer days of summer approach and people begin to spend more time outdoors, a 136 mile charity walk along the banks of the River Wye will highlight the importance of nature for everyone, especially children.
The journey, for Sarah Cocozza, from Hereford, begins on April 26th in the fairytale Hafren Forest, mid-Wales where the source of the River Wye rises. Across moorlands, mountains and woodlands the walk follows the Wye across the Welsh border at Hay-on-Wye and into Herefordshire, passing Hereford, Symonds Yat, with a final 6 miles from Tintern Abbey to Chepstow.
The walk is raising awareness of Hereford Community Foundation, while supporting George's Fund. HCF is an independent grant-mak- ing charity that supports communites and individuals in need.Time spent outside exploring rivers, forests and open spaces can have a powerful impact on wellbeing. George’s Fund supports projects for children aged 3-11 in Herefordshire, connecting them with nature to help them overcome emotional and physical challenges.
Sarah won't be alone for the whole week. She will be joined by members of George's family, and friends. Vic Cooper, owner of The Shop at Coo Corner Fownhope, will join for days 1, 2 and 7 and has been championing the walk in her retail outlet.
