“Some other places I continue to come back to are the Maritimes and Northwest Territories. My mother was a German descendant from Lunenburg County in Nova Scotia. I am interested in the various industries which surround that area, particularly the fishing industry. The various towns and villages which dot the Nova Scotian coast are often built around this industry. There is something endearing about going out fishing on the often-rough Atlantic, to provide food to a surrounding community. I try to capture this sense of humble confidence when painting the eastern coast.”
