JAMAICA Best for nightlife

Jamaica might be the rhythm of the Caribbean itself, often accredited as its cultural capital. With the promise of reggae music, street dances, festivals, famous jerk chicken and welcoming locals, you’ll almost certainly feel the vibe of this destination on your first night. All this excitement of course requires the opportunity to recharge too and Jamaica’s alluring beaches (including the incredible Seven Mile Beach) offer just that. Music still rules the waves here though, with the pulse of dancehall rhythms echoing through the streets and along the beach from dusk til dawn.

ST LUCIA Best for adventure-seekers With an impressive sprawling landscape of lush, tropical greenery and rugged mountainous terrain flanking pristine coastlines, St Lucia is primed for exploration and, at the least, offers marvellous views. One of the most popular islands for honeymoons, St Lucia has white beaches, rainforests and the famous Pitons as a consistent draw as an indicator of the adventures possible here. The offerings of indulgent all-inclusive resorts, catering for all budgets, have made this destination accessible and appealing for the divers, snorkelers, trekkers and explorers among us, whether or not it’s for a honeymoon.

THE CAYMAN ISLANDS Best for sea life

Many visitors to the Cayman Islands are those on cruise ship itineraries, but the lucky ones are those

who explore a bit further. Many will spend some time shopping, sunbathing and swimming in the short time before they leave the port again, but they also miss out on getting the most out of Seven Mile Beach, one of the Caribbean’s finest stretches of sand, and the all-inclusive resorts that line it. The real miss though, is the chance to get acquainted with the incredible wildlife here. Not only is Grand Cayman the famed home of the Blue Iguana (or dragon), but nearby is Stingray City and everything from sea turtles to a variety of sharks can be found here too. Great news for snorkelers and adventurers.

MEXICO Best for a bit of everything Mexico is as vast as it is varied, a diverse concoction of cultures, cuisine and nature with something to suit everyone. From the vibrant local flavour of Cancun to the blissful beaches of Tulum and the museums and theatres of Guadalajara, all with Mayan culture and ruins dispersed along the way, you’ll see the versatility of this destination quickly. Then there’s the people, equally diverse, you’ll find frequent fiestas, deep-routed traditions, tight-knit families and, likely, a very charming welcome too.

MUSTIQUE Best for seclusion Arguably one of the Caribbean’s true hidden gems, Mustique is an island escape like few others. Once reserved for royalty, its white sandy beaches and tropical climate used to play host to Mick Jagger, Shania Twain and other celebrity royalty, but now is a viable option for those

wanting a scaled down Caribbean getaway. And if you do decide to visit, be sure to visit the Cotton House Spa and make the most of horseback riding opportunities.

TRINIDAD & TOBAGO Best for variety Trinidad and Tobago can be compared to sibling rivals, as they contrast and contradict each other brilliantly. Trinidad plays host to remarkably colourful Trinidad carnival, whilst the annual Jazz experience is Tobago’s to boast. Tobago is where you’ll find that despite tourism, it has been left mostly untouched and unchanged, which is a different story in Trinidad. However, between the two you’ll find remarkable wildlife, mouth-watering food (try the famous crab and dumplings) and with any luck, some of the biggest turtles in the world!
