A purpose-built depot for European clinical trials


With more than 26 years of experience and 21 depots globally, integrated clinical services provider Yourway supports the entire clinical trial value chain. Senior vice-president of corporate development, Leandro Moreira, explains how Yourway’s unique approach ensures trials run as smoothly as possible, and how its new Dublin-based facility will offer European trials more clinical trial resources and greater access to international destinations.


Yourway has been described as an integrated provider of clinical services. Can you expand on what that means? Leandro Moreira: We provide everything in-house, including specialised temperature-controlled storage and distribution, primary and secondary clinical packaging, procurement of comparator and standard of care drugs and ancillary supplies, returns, reconciliation and destruction.


All these services are completely integrated and coordinated by a team of project managers who work as an extension of our clients’ teams, ensuring scope of services and timelines are properly met. Other companies try to offer integrated services, but they typically outsource one or more of their services. Yourway’s integrated service approach allows us to reduce time, effort and cost, and to increase efficiency and clinical trial operations.


How does Yourway support the entire clinical trial value chain? To begin with, our services include very specialised temperature-controlled storage and transportation of clinical trial products. Additionally, we provide primary packaging services, which consist of bottling, encapsulation, over-encapsulation and blistering. For example, we support many comparative studies by providing the necessary clinical packaging services, so investigational and comparator products look exactly the same.

We also provide secondary packaging – or more specifically, kitting services – including study kit assembly and labelling. Kit components could be the study drug, a placebo or even a comparator drug and possibly ancillary supplies, such as syringes or gloves. Kitting is extremely important,

but difficult to do. Kits need to be designed intuitively for ease of use by clinical teams and patients. Kits also need to be designed for minimal space and materials, and maximum package integrity. We also provide comparator drug and ancillary supplies sourcing. Yourway’s drug sourcing expertise covers the gamut of high-value drugs. Also, there’s customs brokerage (customs clearance across international borders), qualified professional (QP; batch certification and release into the EU, UK and Israel) services and importer of record (IOR) services. At the end of a study, unused products need to be returned, reconciled, and destroyed; we provide that service as well. As you can see, all our services are integrated across the entire life cycle of a clinical trial.


Yourway recently announced the construction of a new flagship facility in Ireland. How will this allow you to expand your clinical trial services globally? Yourway has had a global reach for more than 26 years. When Brexit was still being debated, we proactively implemented a temporary solution in Bratislava. Now, with Brexit in place, it was time for Yourway to have an EU flagship depot. We chose Dublin Airport Logistics Park in Dublin, Ireland.
