Proactive product development

Antti Marine is redefining shipbuilding standards with its innovative, lighter-weight fire doors – set to debut on Royal Caribbean’s upcoming Legend of the Seas.

oyal Caribbean International’s third gigantic Icon-class ship, Legend of the Seas, will be among the first vessels to feature next-generation doors from Antti Marine when it is delivered in summer 2026. Antti will manufacture thousands of guest room and crew cabin doors for this huge luxury liner. “Our new, lighter doors have been well received in shipbuilding circles – we’ve had positive feedback from many directions,” said Markko Takkinen, commercial director at Antti Marine. “The favourable response is no wonder – reduced weight is also a sustainability achievement. Less raw material is needed in manufacturing, and the lower mass contributes to reduced operating costs for the vessel.”

Legend of the Seas will feature Antti Marine’s new lighter doors.

Fire safety, sound insulation and durability requirements often result in ship doors being relatively heavy. However, drawing on Antti Marine’s

extensive experience and proactive product development, the company has successfully reduced the weight of its B-class fire doors. “We have introduced new technical solutions with insulation materials,” Takkinen explains. “The thickness of the insulation material in these next- generation doors has been further developed, and the steel thickness has been optimised. Additionally, we have made advancements in processing efficiency by implementing changes to the door structure and the entire design system. These innovations have resulted in up to 15% weight savings in Antti B-class fire doors.” ●

ANTTI DOOR – LESSER LOAD FOR THE SHIP

LIGHTER

Fire safety, sound insulation, and durability requirements make ship doors relatively heavy. However, thanks to over 30 years of experience and active product development, Antti Marine has now successfully managed to reduce the weight of its next-generation doors. The new optimized structural and insulation solutions in Antti doors benefit both shipowners and our shared environment.
