GATHER YE ALL

Summer and Fall have great industry events lined up, focused upon North America – a vital and industrious tunneling market which this publication is proud to have covered for 25 years. In June, UCA’s North American

Tunneling (NAT 2024) show and exhibition takes place in Nashville, Tennessee. Tunnel projects large and small, and for new construction and rehabilitation, and across all owner sectors, will be covered in the packed program. We are pleased to provide our second, more in-depth preview that includes a sampling of the extensive Technical Program. Come Fall, Canada will pull

attention to trenchless projects and technologies with NASTT’s No-Dig North 2024, to be held late October in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Along with the recent No-Dig Show, these serve a sector that is steadily growing as all manner of new expansion and improvements of old underground utility tunnels are much needed. All these events – along with

RETC – confirm the growth and importance of the underground services sector to the infrastructure and consequent wellbeing, in health

and economic improvement, across North America. The focus upon these utilities and their relative share of tunnel investment in the region is different to markets elsewhere in the world, which we look at in a feature drawing upon top-line figures from GlobalData, a sister publication of T&TNA. Education and training to help

deliver on these market and societal needs, and opportunities, is always important. The major conference are in themselves valuable to this process as are dedicated courses – those immediately prior to the events as well as, for example, that offered by the UK’s tunnelers this summer, sharing their wealth of knowledge in a 1-week course in July. And, we have so much more to

share in this issue: trenchless bores supporting offshore wave energy R&D; student-led successful designs for MTBMs; low carbon grout for large TBM bores; dynamic digital survey solutions to rapidly support advancing tunnel works; and, data management in geoscience.
