PREVIEW | NO-DIG NORTH 2024

NO-DIG NORTH 2024 PREVIEW -

This Fall, at Niagara Falls on the Ontario side, the trenchless industry in North America will gather for No-Dig North 2024 for which a packed program is being prepared by NASTT

Chapters are holding the latest annual No-Dig North event at the Niagara falls Convention Centre, in Niagara Falls, Ontario, over October 28-30. The main event is preceded by the ‘Good Practices’

training courses, on the first day (Oct 28), for a fee separate to the main event registration fee. The show will then have two days of technical

presentations and industry exhibits. The technical program is being developed. Sessions usually run in parallel tracks over the two days of the main conference and exhibition (Oct 29-30). Early bird fee rates are available up to Sep 9. NASTT says No-Dig North benefits municipalities,

contractors, consulting engineers, gas/electric utilities, pipelines and energy, industrial facilities, and those in damage prevention.

‘GOOD PRACTICES’ TRAINING COURSES Four ‘Good Practices’ training courses with separate themes are available on Oct 28, as follows: Cured in place pipe (CIPP): The aim is to provide an in-depth overview of water, wastewater mainline and sewer lateral pipe rehabilitation using CIPP from planning to design to job completion.

Horizontal direct drilling (HDD): Another course on offer focuses on horizontal direct drilling (HDD) with six keys areas to be looked at: (1) operation and application; (2) equipment and materials; (3) planning, including surface and geological investigations, utility surveys, bore planning, and regulations and permitting; (4) job site safety; (5) risk reduction, troubleshooting and mitigation; and, (6) design.

Introduction to New Installations: As one of the two ‘Introductory’ courses presented at the event, this short course is pitched for newcomers to the industry and others seeking a refresher run-through on trenchless technology methods. In this session, the focus is on techniques for new construction – microtunnelling, HDD, pipejacking, auger boring, and pipe ramming.

Introduction to Rehabilitation: This Introductory short course is also suited to both newcomers to the industry as well as those interested in a refresher course. The session on trenchless technology methods has a focus on rehabilitation, providing an overview of the methods available to public works and sewer agencies to rehabilitate water, sewer and gas systems without the need for excavation.

TECHNICAL PROGRAM While the technical program is being finalized, earlier this year abstracts were called for in the following subjects areas to be submitted to the No-Dig North 2024 Technical Committee:

Potable Water and Pressure Systems ● Pipeline inspection, locating and condition assessment ● Pipe rehabilitation ● Pipe bursting ● Emerging technologies

Industry Issues ● Trenchless Foundations ● Subsurface Utility Engineering ● Submittal Requirements and Quality Assurance/Quality Control
