| Power plant products Fire water pump package for NZT Power

UK-based manufacturer SPP Pumps will be supplying fire water pumps to the NZT Power gas fired power. The project, officially known as Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power), is a commercial-scale, gas-fired power station currently under construction in northeast England. It aims to be the world’s first facility of its kind integrated with full-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS). The project is led by Technip Energies in a consortium with GE Vernova, and construction partner Balfour Beatty, to deliver the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the NZT Power and NEP onshore power, capture and compression project. The project award is for a large, engineered pump house. The system contains both diesel engine and electric motor driven FM approved split-case fire water pumps. The fire pump

system will be completed with a secondary start system, fire suppression system, OH2 pressure maintenance pumps, local control and other relevant safety equipment.

SPP Pumps will have 50 people working directly on the contract, which supports the growth of its robust apprenticeship programme. SPP currently

has approximately 15 apprentices with plans to recruit an additional five over the next 12 months. NZT Power will be capable of generating up to 742 MWe of dispatchable low-carbon power, capturing up to two million tonnes of CO2 a year, which will be transported and stored by the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) infrastructure - the UK’s first CO2 transportation and storage infrastructure project. “The NZT Power project is an important milestone for SPP,” said Tom Salmon, Group business development manager. “While we have a long history of supplying pump equipment to energy, power, municipal, and other traditional sectors, the opportunity to work on a prestigious CCS project provides a strong foundation for our growth in the energy transition sector in the UK and abroad.”

Updated turbomachinery monitoring

Emerson has announced updates to its AMS 6500 ATG online protection system with embedded prediction, and its AMS Machine Works asset health monitoring software. New features in both systems have been designed in parallel to drive improved analytics for critical turbomachinery, particularly to support complex, high-stakes activities such as machinery start-ups and shutdowns. The enhancements to both products’ software include Modbus-independent connectivity. Historically, data collection from the most effective systems was typically limited to minutes of operation. Also, the higher the quality of data collected, the more limited the collection window. Yet, turbomachinery start-ups or shutdowns can take hours or even days, and operators and analysts need longer information timelines to better understand what

is happening during these complex operations. The AMS 6500 ATG version 5.0 and the AMS Machine Works version 2.4 software have been updated to support continuous, unlimited machine data transmission from the protection system into the analytics platform, helping operators better understand what is happening during complex activities while enabling analysts to perform more comprehensive analysis and long-term trending in AMS Machine Works. The latest enhancements to the AMS 6500 ATG and the AMS Machine Works software provide users with greater visibility into how their assets and operations are changing. With access to longer and more frequent data, analysts can use AMS Machine Works to more effectively trend streamed information for the AMS 6500 ATG and data from other sources, and those trends can be tied directly to alarms. Operators can also see live

data illustrating what is happening in machines connected to the system. The AMS 6500 ATG has also been updated with a web-server-based programmable dashboard to provide visualisation of critical turbomachinery performance. The system can show up to five programmable dashboards, including trending, Boolean alarm value screens and live measurement fields.

New SiC-MOSFET relays for HV power applications

Omron Electronic Components Europe has introduced new G3VH SiC-MOSFET relays with voltage ratings of 3300V and 1800V, delivering solid-state power-switching advantages at bus and battery voltages up to 1000V and beyond. With their elevated ratings, these relays are said to ensure robust and reliable switching as system designers adopt increased voltages to maximise

energy efficiency and leverage smaller, lighter wires and connections. While able to operate above normal maximum voltage limits for ordinary silicon- based relays, the new G3VH devices are physically smaller than conventional reed relays and believed to be longer-lasting. They are typically used in industrial drives and automation, solar- and wind- power generators, energy-storage systems (ESS) for ground fault detection, and automated test equipment (ATE) for high-voltage, wide-bandgap power-semiconductors. Containing back-to-back silicon-carbide (SiC) MOSFETs with an optically isolated gate driver, the relays can handle high operating voltages within their compact 6-pin dual inline package (DIP-6) outline. Benefiting from inherently low internal capacitances that ensure clean and efficient switching up to high

speeds, the relays have turn-on time of 1ms or 2ms and can turn off within 0.2ms. G3VH series devices therefore permit fast response to system safety commands as well as allowing shorter test cycle times in ATE applications. While SiC’s naturally high dV/ dt tolerance ensures stable switching even in challenging conditions, the MOSFETs also withstand high operating temperatures and thermal stresses to endure long cycle life in all environments. The new devices comprise two series, including the G3VH-331, rated for 3300V, 300mA continuous load current, and 900mA  between the terminals.
