First synchronisation software for power control systems
Emerson has introduced its Ovation Curation Tool, synchronisation software for power and water control systems, and said to be a first-of-its-kind solution. It delivers a way to maintain version control and detailed change history between multiple Ovation systems and simulators. The Curation Tool automates management of changes between power plant production systems and their digital twins to improve testing and training accuracy, enabling faster troubleshooting and stronger governance of the system, while maintaining audit history and impact analysis. One of the primary challenges of managing digital twins is ensuring that both the simulation and production are properly synchronised. Operators and engineers make regular changes to production systems to solve problems, improve performance and develop new control strategies. Over time, these changes cause the configuration of the plant’s control systems to drift from the digital
twin simulation model. Manually tracking and implementing changes can take hours of engineering time, making the process both time-consuming and labour-intensive. The Ovation Curation Tool automatically tracks changes to the control system over time and enables fast and easy deployment of those changes to other control systems and simulations via an intuitive dashboard. The Curation Tool software can be set to run at an organisation’s desired frequency – weekly, monthly, or ad-hoc – to automatically identify
and track any changes made to the control system, eliminating the need to perform manual comparisons, and giving operators access to a detailed change history and auditing via the intuitive dashboard, which shows what changed, who made the changes and when they occurred. This audit trail reduces the risk of undocumented or unexpected changes. Once changes have been validated, a user can launch automated synchronisation between the production system and the digital twin, or between the digital twin and other Ovation control systems. Before deployment, the simulation snapshot impact analysis tool details any disruptions the changes will cause to the target system and suggests resolutions. Using a system of repositories, the Curation Tool moves data between the production system and the simulator while maintaining synchronisation of the data. Multiple users can edit the same assets and merge their changes.
MetCom group expands ZX lidar fleet in the Baltic
significant expansion and highlighting strong demand for high-accuracy wind measurement solutions across Lithuania and the wider Baltic region which is experiencing growing wind energy activity.
MetCom Group has purchased five additional ZX 300e wind lidars. This investment brings the Group’s total fleet to eleven ZX wind lidars acquired in under six months, marking a
The new units will primarily strengthen MetCom’s rental portfolio, enabling flexible deployment across multiple wind resource assessment campaigns and supporting the accelerated development of onshore wind projects. In addition to its expanding rental fleet, MetCom will offer a range of supporting services, including off-grid power supply solutions (PSU systems), full field service capabilities, and ongoing maintenance.
As turbine hub heights continue to increase across Baltic markets, the need for accurate wind measurement at elevated heights has become critical. The purpose of the ZX 300e unit is to deliver precise wind data at heights of up to 200 metres and beyond, offering a solution suited to both short- and long-term measurement campaigns.
commented: “The ZX 300e has proven to be a reliable and accurate solution for our projects across the Baltic region. Expanding our fleet allows us to respond quickly to client needs, particularly as hub heights increase and measurement requirements become more demanding.”
Trant supports Didcot’s transitional move
Trant Engineering has completed the preliminary civil works at National Grid’s Didcot gas insulated substation (GIS), a key infrastructure development that will connect data centres and a battery energy storage system to the electricity transmission network. Situated by the former Didcot A coal fired power station, and two miles from the UK’s first AI Growth Zone at Culham, the upgraded substation aims to support Britain’s digital ambitions. Linxon, the principal contractor, awarded Trant the Civil Design and Build subcontract. The Trant delivery team completed the CFA piling works on schedule,
enabling the construction teams to progress with the concrete foundation and structures. All three super grid transformer (SGT) bunded bays were pours for the GIS building foundations. Alistair Parker, Energy Director at Trant Engineering, said: “… this critical infrastructure upgrade … will support Britain’s digital economy and renewable energy ambitions. Timely completion of the preliminary civil works is a key milestone for this important project. Strong collaboration with Linxon and National Grid has been key to maintaining momentum.”
