JUNE 2025 Ӏ JOB OF THE MONTH
TERRIFIC TRIO
Three lattice boom crawler cranes used to install a 728-tonne railroad bridge in Italy.
Italian heavy lifting specialists Vernazza Autogru and Autovictor worked together utilising three crawler cranes to lift and then position a 728-tonne steel railroad bridge, measuring 78 metres long, over the river Alpone near San Bonifacio, Italy. The three cranes used were: a
Tadano CC 68.1250-1; a Tadano CC 38.650-1; and a 400-tonne crawler crane. Initially the Tadano CC
68.1250-1 lifted the bridge on its own to a height of 15 metres at a radius of 20 metres. It then travelled 45 metres on double- layered red ironwood crane mats to the river. For this the bridge was rigged at four points and the crane set up with an SSL configuration with a 72-metre-long main boom. Once in position at the river the other two cranes joined the operation. Autovictor's Tadano CC 38.650-1 was set up with a 68-metre-long boom, while the 400-tonne crawler crane had a 35-metre boom. They hooked the ends of the bridge and precisely manoeuvred it into be position onto its support points. In total the job around two months to complete.
