NORTH AMERICA Ӏ REGIONAL FOCUS
KATE LAMPSON Director of Strategic Communication, Lampson International
Kennewick, Washington- headquartered Lampson International was founded in 1946. It started as a small drayage company and quickly grew into a provider of lifting and transport equipment and full-service rigging services in the United States and abroad. The company also manufactures the Lampson Transi-Lift range of heavy lift cranes.
How busy has Lampson International been over the last year? We are starting to see an uptick in rentals with many proposals coming through for the third and fourth quarters of 2023, as well as the first half of 2024.
And how is the schedule looking for the forthcoming year and beyond? We are definitely seeing an increase in opportunities for work over that of 2022.
What are the reasons for this? I think a few things are going on. First, with the infrastructure bill there are various projects out there that are starting to pick up. We are also definitely seeing more demand in the tilt-up business with our cranes being needed to tilt and set large concrete panels. We’ve done a few of those for Amazon – one even in the Tri-Cities, Pasco where we are based – although it is starting to happen all over the USA.
What sectors/types of job are providing the most amount of work at the moment? We are seeing requests for conventional crawler cranes as well as Transi-Lift work nationally

and worldwide. In addition to heavy lift projects, we continue to bid for heavy haul work both domestically and abroad and we are seeing an increase in requests for our manufacturing services.
Which items of your equipment are most in demand? The Lampson Millennium 4100 remains a very popular machine and we are receiving a lot of requests for it. In addition, we are seeing demand for the Manitowoc 18000, Manitowoc 4600 and 4100 Ring. With regard to heavy haul projects, we continue to use our Lampson Crawler Transporters and Goldhofer trailers for various types of heavy haul projects.
Have you bought any new cranes / specialised transport equipment recently? No, we believe that we have sufficient inventory now. If demand increases, however, we will consider making an investment.
And are you planning to buy new equipment in 2023? If we have demand for a specific type of equipment that we find we are short on, and it makes sense, we will consider a purchase.
Are there any particular industry issues that you’d like to highlight? Like many companies we are dealing with issues of inflation specific to fuel, steel prices and various crane components as well supply chain challenges and shipping delays. We also continue to see the
market flooded with equipment from foreign companies, making it more challenging for US companies to win projects.
What areas of opportunity do you foresee? I think that there is opportunity for us to continue in the heavy lift and heavy haul sectors as well as ramping up our manufacturing efforts in various capacities and within multiple industries.
And finally, are there any other challenges you encounter being based in the USA? Like other countries around the world are experiencing, the polices of the current administration are not working and are causing worldwide issues. A change in leadership in 2024 would be beneficial to the United States and our allies.
