BTSYM INVITES PRESENTATIONS FOR MAY CONFERENCE BTSYM – the group for the British Tunnelling Society’s Young Members – is calling for presentations for its 2022 conference scheduled to take place on 20 May at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in London, UK. Presentations are invited from tunnelling and
underground space professionals who are 35 years of age or under. Subject matter can relate to an interesting project, a piece of work, or research that applicants have been involved in. Each presentation should be 15 minutes long. At the
end of each segment of 3 to 4 presentations there will be a Q+A session. For now, applicants need only provide their details,
the topic of their presentation and a short description. The closing date for applications is 6 February 2022. To begin the process of making a presentation,

YOUNG TUNNELLERS INVITED TO ENTER NEW INDUSTRY AWARD The British Tunnelling Society Young Members (BTSYM) is inviting entries for the very first Doug Allenby Memorial Medal, to be awarded at the BTSYM Conference at the ICE on 20 May 2022. Applicants working in the tunnelling and underground space sector (having up to 10 years’ relevant experience)
● A contribution to a project which can be demonstrated through technical excellence, commitment to a project, delivering complicated work-packages, innovation, etc, or
● A contribution to a team which can be demonstrated through ability to manage and lead, initiatives to mentor and upskill colleagues, championing innovative solutions, etc.
Applicants who wish to be considered for the medal must submit: ● A statement (max. two A4 pages) detailing how they meet the desired attributes and criteria.
● A copy of their CV (resume), and ● A reference or endorsement letter from their line manager, a senior member of their team (director, tunnel manager, etc.), or a senior member of the industry. The BTS/BTSYM reserves the right to contact the endorser for further information regarding the applicant in question.

BTS CONFERENCE DATE AND VENUE CONFIRMED FOR OCTOBER This year’s British Tunnelling Society (BTS) Conference and Exhibition has been confirmed will take place at the QE2 Conference Centre in London on 11–12 October 2022. Last year, the BTS organised a highly successful
conference, characterised as much by the quality and diversity of the technical papers given as by the impressive attendance of exhibitors in the trade hall. As the largest tunnelling show of its type in the UK,
the BTS Conference and Exhibition typically attracts more than 800 tunnelling professionals eager to learn and network. The two days of learning, debate and analysis make this year’s event an essential meeting point for everyone involved in the design, construction and operation and maintenance of today’s underground infrastructure systems.
