Company insight

V-Type alternator range is “the most resilient yet”

As a high-volume manufacturer serving a global market from production facilities in Italy, the UK, China and India, Mecc Alte is perfectly placed to listen to feedback from customers all over the world.

“T

he V-Type range has been created specifically to meet a need for alternators that can work reliably and consistently in very harsh environments,” says Mecc Alte’s Jonathan Stokes. “That’s why we call it our most resilient alternator yet.” The design of the product was also informed by a series of “Discovery Days” at Mecc Alte’s UK facility, where OEMs and end users could discuss their needs with Mecc Alte experts. The combination of the company’s well-known technical expertise with aftersales support and direct discussions with customers enables it to “fully understand the challenges that users face with their generator sets so that we can evolve our products to help resolve these issues”, says Stokes. Naturally, given the tough

environments in which the alternator range is used, the V-Type underwent extremely rigorous testing. The result is a product that enables reliable power

generation when faced with forces of nature such as extreme heat or cold, high levels of rain or dust, often in locations that are remote or difficult to support, such as mining operations.

Superior durability is also built into the design as standard to ensure extended uptime in locations where it may be challenging to carry out the normal maintenance procedure associated with less resilient models. V-Type TOTAL+, for example, is an exclusive winding treatment with a specification that’s designed to be more resilient, on top of the VPI impregnation. Reinforced tape is also used around the lower radius of the stator, providing an external covering for the reinforced NDE winding head base.

More on offer

Other enhancements that add to V-Type range’s exceptional durability and longevity include 30,000 premium bearing hours for increased reliability,

taping and VTP treatment for the excitor stator, TOTAL+ reinforcement of the lower lamination slats for insulation protection, and premium paint that includes an anti-rust treatment. The range also comes with the MAUX Power Boost Auxiliary

Winding System as standard across the range to provide

high performance over standard shunt systems, thanks to over 300% forced short circuit current for up to 20 seconds. An extended warranty is also standard.

Robust solutions With these enhancements, the V-Type is built to last as part of a robust power generator set that is not only ideally suited to its operating conditions but can also function as one resilient unit. “As power generation becomes much more about complete solutions than products, we’re creating value by supplying original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with alternators, controllers, battery chargers and governors required for their generators. The result is an integrated solution that very closely matches the unique demands of each and every power requirement,” says Stokes.

One example is Mecc Alte’s digital

AVR for self-setting voltage regulation and Smartlink connectivity to the Mecc Alte Smartech range of controllers. The integrated link to controllers is designed to provide an optimum communications and collaboration solution in terms of information, setting and efficiency. As an intelligent option the design leads to consequent savings during operation. “By providing simple safe access to all essential genset components, we enable true digital regulation and real- time measurement, as well as smart diagnostics, rapid setting via the controller and enhanced safety – all in one human-machine interface, or HMI,” says Stokes. ●
