How high-tensile chain link mesh improves safety and efficiency
Swiss company Geobrugg is a global leader in the supply of high-tensile steel wire safety nets and meshes to protect against natural hazards such as rockfall, landslides, debris flows, avalanches or coastal erosion. More than 300 specialists work for Geobrugg worldwide, with production facilities on all continents and a presence in 50 countries.
ost ground support systems in underground mining used to be reliant on weld mesh, shotcrete and grout, or encapsulated resin bolts or cable bolts. The mesh and shotcrete formed the primary surface support, while the bolts and cable bolts acted as rock reinforcements. As mines need to go deeper and deeper to reach the ore, the geological conditions have become increasingly challenging. High-stress conditions and seismicity put more pressure on ground support systems. This is where Geobrugg’s high-tensile chain-link mesh, MINAX, is changing the game. The high-capacity chain-link mesh is a stronger and more lightweight solution to weld mesh, due to its wire tensile strength of more than 1,770MPa. Geobrugg is proud to make the lives of underground workers safer and easier. The company’s installation tools make handling more straightforward than with any welded wire mesh. Mechanical installation of the mesh is simple and can be carried out by most twin-boom bolters or any multi-boom jumbo. Not only is there a significant increase in efficiency, but also in safety as there is no longer a need for personnel to work under unprotected ground. It is installed over the total tunnel profile in one round, which eliminates most instances of overlap. This guarantees an optimal force transmission in the mesh to the anchor points.

The mesh is currently used in almost every mining-related area around the globe, and more and more mines are starting to see the advantages of MINAX. Geobrugg produces on every continent to maintain a fast, constant and reliable

With production plants around the world and a presence in most countries, operations are independent of most external factors – even the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020 did not affect production and deliveries. Millions of square metres of mesh have been
