ADVERTORIAL FEATURE | AMENTUM

Amentum’s pivotal role in the nuclear renaissance

With decades of global nuclear experience, Amentum is working across multiple nations and with reactor vendors, utilities and governments to realise their new nuclear ambitions.

WITH A NUCLEAR HERITAGE REACHING back to the very inception of the industry and pivotal positions on major programmes across the world, Amentum is helping to turn new nuclear energy ambitions into reality. Already embedded at the heart of nuclear new build

programmes in the United Kingdom and Poland, the company is also assisting governments, major utilities and reactor vendors in France, Norway, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic with proposals for gigawatt and small modular reactors. As sole programme and project management provider

at Sizewell C in the UK, Amentum’s critical role is to de- risk the programme by managing complex interfaces and dependencies throughout the supply chain. Another key aspect of this work is to ensure continuity from Hinkley Point C, where Amentum is supporting EDF with wide- ranging technical, programme and project management services. Jon Fowler, Amentum Vice President for Energy, said:

“We are incentivised to deliver Sizewell C for less than the headline cost that has been quoted publicly. Key to doing this will be adopting and implementing improvements and lessons from Hinkley Point C, where the learning from Unit 1 has enabled EDF to cut the cost of building Unit 2 by 20-30%. “We are uniquely placed to help new nuclear nations with the challenges they face. We have 7,000 people

working on nuclear projects around the world, deep technical reachback, as well as recent and current new build programme management experience at Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates and in the UK.” In Norway, Amentum and its local partner MultiConsult

Norge are reviewing technology options for a potential new nuclear power programme on behalf of the Norwegian Nuclear Commission, which was appointed by the government in 2024 to examine the suitability of nuclear for the country’s electricity supply system and what it would entail for Norway to become a new nuclear power country. The study will provide an overview of various reactor

technologies and power plant designs, including small modular and advanced modular reactors. It will examine their technological maturity, estimated timeline for implementation and commercial availability, construction and operational costs, and their capability for flexible operation and associated costs. In the Netherlands, Amentum has evaluated options for

expanding the country’s nuclear power capacity on behalf of the Ministry of Climate Policy and Green Growth. This took the form of a third-party assessment of technical feasibility studies and market consultations provided by three potential reactor vendors. Amentum also provided independent advice on the technical and market viability of constructing two nuclear power plants, and advisory input to enable an informed decision on design and financing.
