The WNE Innovation Awards
Showcasing the best of the civil nuclear industry, the innovation awards highlight those individuals and organisations which have demonstrated excellence and innovation in the civil nuclear arena
A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO RECOGNISE THE REMARKABLE achievements of the civil nuclear industry, the WNE Innovation Awards promote creativity in this sector. Know- how, mastery, agility and innovation are the keywords that encourage the civil nuclear sector to move towards a more responsible and less carbon-intensive world and the WNE Innovation Awards embody those qualities. There are awards for five separate categories:
Societal and sustainable responsibility innovation This award recognises a positive impact on the environment, either human or natural, where the objective is to prevent or correct the negative effects of the activities and externalities of the nuclear sector. In particular the award includes an assessment of a positive impact of a company’s project, process or product that is qualified by the creation of added value for stakeholders that may be affected by a company’s activities and is also quantified through the measurement of specific environmental and socio-economic impact indicators but also economic indicators. The president of the jury for this award is Sama Bilbao y Leon, Director General of the World Nuclear Association.
Skills & knowledge management innovation Knowledge Management has been introduced to the nuclear industry as a response to the aging nuclear industry workforce, where the generation that designed, commissioned and initially operated these plants has begun to reach retirement age. Tools for capture and transfer of knowledge from this aging workforce to its younger replacements are emphasised and this requirement is now a key feature of future workforce planning and development criteria for the New Nuclear Build programmes. This award recognises an integrated, systematic approach to identifying, acquiring, transforming, developing, disseminating, using, sharing, and preserving knowledge, relevant to achieving specified objectives. The president of the jury for this award is Melina Belinco, Vice President, Women in Nuclear (WiN Global).

Operational excellence innovation This award considers operational excellence as it relates to a systematic and methodical approach designed to maximise performance in terms of productivity, quality of products and reliability, or nuclear safety. The president of the jury for
this award is Aline De Cloizeaux Nuclear Power Division Director at the IAEA.
Products and services innovation This category recognises products or technological building blocks which will contribute to shaping the present and future nuclear technology facilities while services includes all processes and methods within an organisation. The award is for products and services that can be located anywhere along the nuclear value chain and concern implementation of a new or significantly improved product or process, a new marketing method, or a new organisational method in business practices, workplace organisation or external relations.
