December 2023 WhatVan? 3 Editor’s Comment by James Dallas

As 2023 draws to a close, we can reflect upon another eventful year for the light commercial vehicle industry. Following on from the long-running component supply shortages that disrupted both the new and used LCV markets and a cost of living crisis that has impacted both businesses and consumers, the sector is now facing full on the challenge of transitioning to zero-emission technology – a process not currently helped by a government that seems to be more concerned with making short- term political gains rather than with unequivocally supporting the industry on this difficult journey. As usual, however, the LCV sector has thrived in adversity: new vehicle sales have increased in every month in 2023. It is testament to the strength of the industry and the resourcefulness of the people working within it that it continues to overcome these challenges.

It was a privilege therefore to be able to honour the outstanding products, individuals and organisations in 27 crucial categories at the WhatVan? Awards 2024 ceremony on 6th December.

Our awards coverage starts on page nine but before you get there check out the latest LCV news on pages four to seven. Last but not least, from all at WhatVan? have a merry Christmas and a happy new year!
